"A country without documentary films is like a family having no photograph albums ". Patricio Guzmán

The person I most admire in my area is called Patricio Guzmán,because of his dedication and concern with social films.
He was born in Santiago de Chile,in August 11th,1941.
He got the double nationality,Chilean- Spanish.
Since he was a teenager,he felt attracted by documentary cinema.
He studied Cinematography at Catholic University in Chile, and later in Madrid,Spain. There he got the title of Director-Producer,in 1970.
He,in a way, renewed the memories of our country,so full of emptiness. His most important documentals are called " The battle of Chile",and "Salvador Allende".To me,he`s the best documentalist in Chile, and I`d like to follow his example in my future work. When he showed his documental about Salvador Allende in our country,he was caught and sent to prision, actually,to the National Stadium.
With the help of his wife and some friends,he got out and he went to Europe to look for economical support to stage his film.
He received help from the Cuban Government.
That`s is why I admire him.A brave and great documentalist and person.

  2. And last month he was awarded the Amnesty International Prize at the Festival of Cinema and Human Rights in San Sebastián for his documentary “Nostalgia for the Light”.
He points out that none of his films has ever been shown on Chilean TV.
